If you weren’t trackside last night you missed a great event. 24 keen and enthusiastic racers attended the annual 21.5 turn V8 supercar Challenge. Registrations were taken and each racer selected a V8 supercar racers name – past or present we saw names like John Bowe, Peter Brock, Jamie Whingecup, Garth Tander and many others from todays lineup.

Unlike other race events we tried to keep it as close to the full scale event as possible so racing started with only 1 qualifier to determine who would make the top 10. It was all or nothing. The track has been prepped and it was in great order. With the qualifier done the top 10 lined up in pit lane to participate in the shootout. One warmup lap and one flying/hot lap. The pressure for some was too much. So from 10th to 1st they all took part. After qualifying down in 8th position past 21.5 QLD titles champion Robert AKA Jamie Whingecup took early pole position honours and that is where he stayed as the higher qualifiers could knock him off. Dick Johnson AKA Noel G has all the moves and was more the showman with getting his Blue ford painted body on 2 wheels during his hot lap whilst others spun out leaving it a difficult to recover and start from the back of the field.

With the Top 10 sorted we went on to the racing side of the night with 3 finals all counting to the points tally. Race 1 and 3 were qualifying grids with race 2 a reverse grid. Action was a plenty. The end results came down to driver consistency with Robert AKA Jamie Whingecup taking overall win following a tie break with Peter B followed by a tie between 3rd and 4th with Brad taking it from Noel after using out Top 10 Shootout qualifying position.

We would also like to thank Michael from Speedy RC – www.speedyrc.com.au for the raffle prizes.

A great night and a great format for the Xmas break-up. From all the volunteers at LCRCCC we wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas time.
